Micropenis – How Long and Treatment

They say that size doesn’t matter, but the truth is that it does: social canons, normality, and the demands of our ideals of masculinity, the obsession with sexual performance, the belief that there is a standard of penis size: we live in a society obsessed with performance and penis size.

All the factors that have made us establish the idea that, below a certain size, below a certain length of his penis, a man will have problems with sexual relations and even with aspects of his health, and of course his self-esteem, are also factors that have made it difficult to diagnose a disease that is more than just an inadequate size of the penis: the so-called micropenis.

Is there such a thing as a micropenis? If so, at what point is a penis considered normal and at what point is it a micropenis? Does it work for intercourse? What negative impacts does it have on a man’s health and self-esteem? Is it considered a disease and, therefore, has a cure? Are there conditions associated with micropenis?

Here we offer you all the information you need about this condition called micropenis.

What do you need

To correctly measure a penis (and if we are facing a micropenis or not) a method and certain tools are needed.
The correct measurement of the length of the penis is important to confirm or rule out the diagnosis of a micropenis. As we have already pointed out, a measurement of 7 centimeters of an erect penis indicates a normal and functional member, which is in a properly developed body.
Below that measurement, in the event that the person has the presence of internal and external genital organs, compatible with a 46 XY karyotype (the normal male genetic load); we are faced with the necessary evidence that supports the diagnosis of a micropenis.
To make this measurement, a ruler is traditionally used to determine the exact length of the penis. This measurement should be done when the penis is fully stretched. Never flaccid, because penises, depending on the individual, tend to shrink differently, in folds or forming a hood within the skin of the trunk. It is also necessary to consider the suprapubic fat pad, which can vary the size of the penis.
In order to measure the penis, your glans should be held between your thumb and forefinger. The measurement should be taken from the pubic ramus to the distal end of the glans, with the ruler on the dorsal side. It is necessary to press the suprapubic fat pad inward as much as possible. This way it will retract during the measurement, and will not increase the measurement.
The thickness of the penis is also another factor to consider in this diagnosis. A micropenis can be thin when it is presented with, for example, severe hypoplasia of the corpus cavernous. Therefore, it is necessary to observe if the reduction in size also affects the thickness.
Another way to measure is by using a 10 ml disposable syringe. In this case the tip with the needle is cut off. The piston is placed inside it, entering through this cut end. The open side of the syringe is placed on the penis. The piston is withdrawn while the fat pads are pressed inward. So the penis is sucked into the syringe. Once fully inside, the penis is measured with the graduation of the syringe. Measurement errors caused by the suprapubic fat pad are significantly eliminated with this method.

Instructions

Here are some interesting facts:

  • Micropenis is a medical diagnosis based on the correct measurement of the length of a male reproductive member, in an erect state. Although the size itself is not definitive to assume whether or not we are facing a micropenis, it is an essential factor.
  • If the length of the erect penis is below the value corresponding to what is considered normal in a man with adequate development, 7 centimeters, then it is very likely that we are talking about a micropenis condition. That measurement is not one that has been taken from a subjective point of view, but rather it is the length of an average penis in a healthy adult male.
  • This measurement is the one that corresponds to a man with normal internal and external male genitalia, and with complete hormonal development.
  • In this sense, the condition of a micropenis is more a symptom of other disorders than a disease itself. It is not that the size of a penis is an evil in itself, but rather that the measurement of an abnormally small penis has other considerations that must be reviewed. A micropenis can be caused by various factors: structural or hormonal defects of the so-called hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. It can also be the result of congenital syndromes.
  • With this we want to point out that the measurement of a penis is not enough to determine if it is a micropenis. Endocrinological and other tests are necessary to determine if we are in the presence of this condition, and if this micropenis is associated with other conditions that must be treated in a timely manner.
  1. The problem with a micropenis is not just about size. There are a series of characteristics that make this type of male member problematic, which leads to more serious health problems than the mere impossibility of having good sexual relations. Here we mention some of them.
  2. The micropenis can appear retracted or flaccid, depending on the length of its shaft and whether or not it is erect. So its appearance is not a determining point. The measurement must be carried out regardless of how the member looks.
  3. On the other hand, the micropenis can be a consequence of the lack of physiological components, such as the lack of corpora cavernous and corpora spongiosum. These are essential tissues for erection and proper urination.
  4. Another aspect of the micropenis is the appearance and conformation of the scrotum. It can be present and fulfill its function normally, but it can also be underdeveloped(cases in which it is called hypo plastic).
  5. In the case of micropenis, there may be involvement of the testicles, which may or may not be present. If they exist, it is likely that they are not working normally: that is, they are not producing semen or sperm. Or that if they do, they lack the ability to expel it through ejaculation. In many cases, the testicles, like the micropenis, have reduced dimensions.

Tips

It is important to accompany the measurement of the penis with hormonal tests and verification of the presence or absence of other components of the reproductive system (such as the testicles and the corpus cavernous). Diagnosis of a micropenis should not be made based on measurement alone.
The determination of the micropenis is of vital importance in childhood, since treatments can be followed that correct the conditions associated with it, and surgery can be applied. In addition, it is of essential importance in the gender assignment of the patient.
The micropenis, as you have seen, is not a subjective assessment of the size of a penis, but rather a medical condition that must be treated rigorously and promptly.
